Friends Don't Let Friends Go To Law School

Just a lawyer trying to keep herself amused

Anonymous asked: Hello, love your tumblr. I would like some advice if possible. I got to study law in college almost by accident, and I live in Brazil. (Here we have 5 and a half years to graduate). I would like to ask what do you think is a good personal profile for somoene beggining to study law without any previous knowledge of the system or any actual plans. Not looking for stereotypes but what do you think are good traits for begginers? and random advice about the law world: ilusions, dreams, possibilities.

As long as you are a hard worker and have an interest in law, you have what it takes to go to law school. Obviously, you need to be somewhat intelligent and know how to handle stress. If you think you want to enter the legal field, I would suggest that you perhaps try to find an internship at a local law firm or government agency. Get your feet wet and see what you like/dislike.

Anonymous asked: I graduated from law school almost a year ago. Passed the July bar and have had a few interviews, but no offers. It's been almost a year of unemployment and living with my parents and there is no end in sight. Now I'm competing with new grads that have at least been in school for the last year. I think I've lost all hope. Advice?

Absolutely DO NOT give up. I was unemployed for over a year before finding my current job. I know exactly how you are feeling. I, my boyfriend (now fiance), and two cats were all forced to move in with my parents and their three obnoxious dogs. Now don’t get me wrong. I am so grateful that my parents took me in. I love them. But that was absolute hell. H-E-L-L.

Although I stopped writing about my struggles with unemployment. I would suggest that you take a look at my old blog at www.lawdegreefail.com/. I went through some pretty bad lows. But I never gave up. I sent out resumes every day and went on over 50 interviews.

Please don’t give up! Your dream position is out there.

funklebuck asked: You seem to be the only person I know (of) that has triple-majored. How long did it take you to do that? I'm considering triple majoring.

I’m a bit of a freak. I graduated college early - took me 3.5 years. My three majors were similar, so some of my credits counted towards all three.

hillary31190 asked: I just want to THANK YOU for posting the GREATEST posts on Tumblr. I just took my last final exam as a 1L and will be a 2L in August! It went incredibly fast and thanks to you, the posts that you've put up for all to see, have really made me laugh and remind me that there really are people who know exactly what I'm going through. So once again THANK YOU. Your Tumblr is great, your humor is great and YOU'RE great! :)

lawschoolruinedme asked: I apologize for the insanity of reblogs. It's exam time; my own creativity is a little zapped, but your blog is amazing and I can't help it.

Anonymous asked: Hello! I'm an undergrad, and I was wondering if you had any idea as to how law schools view W's on a transcript? I have two and I'm wondering if they're going to completely ruin my chances of being accepted anywhere

Absolutely not. I had two/three withdrawals on my college transcript, and I did just fine. As long as you have a decent LSAT score and a decent GPA, you will get into a decent law school. However, if you want to get into a tier one law school, you will need to have an amazing LSAT score and an amazing GPA. Just remember: hard work pays off. But seriously, law school? Ick.
